Message from Managing Director

At the outset let me extend my heartfelt best wishes to one and all.

2018- the start of another journey and it is my dream for all the employees and stakeholders to make a new beginning keeping in mind what we learnt from our past experiences.

For the past years we are all visualizing Assam Gas to play a key role in the Energy business in the North- East India as well as in economic activities with the ASEAN Countries.

Through the sincerity and hard work of its employees- past and present, and the far-sightedness of our leaders, we remain the foremost amongst the public sector undertakings in Assam. However that is not enough.To usher in greater operational efficiency, we have to reinvent many a systems and processes and make use of all available technology thereby minimizing the human intervention in the company’s operations.

Let me quote Dr. Daisaku Ikeda., a Japanese educator and philosopher who once said that “What may look like a small act of courage is courage nevertheless. The important thing is to be willing to take a step forward.”

Yes,we have taken a step forward- all of us in Assam Gas, as one TEAM.

Last year we identified six priority areas for Assam Gas to embark on its new journey. Work and actions already started to set the ball in motion.

The first priority area was to modernize and upgradethe Infrastructure to make it compliant to T4S Regulations of PNGRB and other regulatory requirements and implementation of Integrity Management System for Pipeline Assets.

The second priority area was to expand thegas pipeline network by seeking out additional gas from small and isolated fields in Golaghat district.

Thirdly,implement SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) System for real time monitoring and control of gas transportation and distribution first phase of which is nearing completion.

Next area was setting up of CNG stations in various towns in the company’s operational area starting with the first CNG station at Dibrugarh the work on which is in progress. ASTC has shown its willingness to enter into a strategic partnership in marketing and distribution of CNG.

Finally, the expansion and deepening the reachof Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network in towns.

Hydrocarbon Vision 2030

In 2016 the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt. of India released the vision document “Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for North-East India” in which a roadmap for implementation of various projects i.e. upstream, midstream & downstream in Hydrocarbon Industry in North East India was listed. In the midstream sector there are proposals for connecting entire North East India to the National Gas Grid by laying underground pipeline from Baraunito Guwahati and the expanding the same further in various states of the North East India in phases. AGCL being the oldest dedicated Gas Transmission and distribution company in the country and rooted in region shall play an important role.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

As a responsible Corporate citizen, AGCL strive to do its bit to protect the planet for the future and support the community in which we operate, We are immensely proud of the positive impact our initiatives have on the people we serve. By building on our successes and creating collaborations with partner organisations and communities, we aim for the biggest positive impact on society. This is quite simply the right thing to do-an investment for inclusive Growth.

Till date our CSR Projects include “Project Shyamalima – the flagship project of AGCL as a pioneer in Waste Management System in Upper Assam”, “Project Pratyasha – Skill development and placement of underprivileged youths” in gainful employment, “Project ParijaatKanan – development and beautification of crematoriums”, “Project ParimalBasudha– Bio-medical waste processing machine and construction of toilet blocks in various wards and OPD area at AMCH, Dibrugarh”, “Project Rupkathar Gaon – integrated village development”, “Project Ashadeep – solar lamp assembling, distribution and maintenance “ , “Project Aparajeya – financial aid to underprivileged child cancer patients treated atDr B Barooah Cancer Institute” to name a few.

New opportunities

With the support of Government of India,Advantage Assam is being launched as the largest ever investment promotion and facilitation initiative by the Government of Assam. The Government of Assam is fully geared up for its first maiden Global Investors’ Summit. The mega event which will be held from February 3-4, 2018 at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati will be inaugurated by Hon’ble PrimeMinister Shri Narendra Modi. Around 2,500 delegates from across the world are expected to attend the Summit with the congregation of industry champions.

Our Hon’ble Industries & Commerce Minister, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary said that “The objective of AdvantageAssam is also to position Assam as India’s Expressway to ASEAN. The Summit is based on the core principles of the Act East Policy of the Govt. India.

Role to be played by Assam Gas

This is indeed an exciting and challenging time for Assam Gas with the start of new opportunities.

As we set off on the next leg of this voyage together, we need to have the dream and ambition to become a truly great company. Without passionate and committed employees who continue to learn and grow, the vision to translate dreams into reality will not be possible. As ONE TEAM we need to seize these new opportunities, use it to our advantage and take Assam Gas to newer heights.

I sincerely appreciate and acknowledge the hard work put in by all the employees of the company during the preceding year and look forward to a concerted effort by all of us in taking the company at new heights.
